Portrait vs. Lifestyle
Portrait Photography
To me Portrait Photography can easily be mistaken as an easier type of photography. Most often it is assumed that you just line the subject up then point and click, but that’s not the case at all. Portrait Photography entails so much more; let me explain: When taking a portrait photo, you are supposed to be capturing that person’s personality. You become the artist representing that person attitude, feelings, and emotions at that point in time. So, when done effectively and often enough this becomes a timeline of one’s life. Telling a different story at each point in time.

Lifestyle Photography
So, what is this Lifestyle Photography you ask? In short it is like taking a snap shot of your everyday life and telling your story. It is a more natural and free flowing session, that focuses on telling your raw, real life emotions. I might come up with a few ideas for instance, a laying on the bed shot holding your baby in the air or a family snowball fight. But you act it out in your own way just like you would if I wasn’t there. You could easily go about your day and I capture those hidden gems that you’ll look back on and say I wish I had my camera ready but didn’t. Trust me I’ve been there myself a lot. Therefore, every time you have a Lifestyle Session it comes with its own new and unique adventure.
Things I do:
- Sometimes give a starting point if there isn’t one already. (But I know you got this already)!
- Pick the best room or location. (Lighting and a space to shoot without interfering is key).
- Suggest clothing that you already have hanging in your closet. (Remember natural)!
- Most importantly staying true to your everyday life. (Shooting things that would happen in a natural part of the day)!
Things I don’t:
- Have you just strike a pose. (If I do that then, where is the fun in capturing you being your natural self)?
- Let you know when I am going to taking a shot. (I can’t stress being natural enough here).
- NEVER have you say CHEESE! (No explanation needed)!
